I only got a small ump sum & entitlement to hospitalisation, Feeling fine now, Yes I saw Cone Collwell at Christmas behind the counter, the business end as he calls it, Out at Ridgewood heare they have four cooks a dietician & a bunch of women serving & cleaning up, they have petty officers out of the navy cooking heare, and havent seen any cookies & pies to equal yours heare yet, apple betty, sugar cake white & marble cake, ginger cake & so on, a lot of style but I dont think the food is as good as we had at No 7

One cook heare that worked with me at Magiveny junction he could not cook anything there, getting One hundred & forty dollars a month heare & his board, so you see, But he has to pay a lot for a room to sleep outside, There was a very good young pastry cook in Lancaster, he joined the army again, And they sent him to the Royal Millitary Colleage to cook to bad we where not twenty five years old, again I suppose we got to take life as

it comes, I have not been on a cource yet, they looked up my army papers & said I did not need a cource as I was qualified, but I think they are going to do something now, Anyway I am writing to Capt Scott right now I think that would be just my job, I am aware drinking and the work is no good, had to do to much of their wok in the army, or it would not be done, Remember the Indian fireman I had to put the block of wood to, to make light the stone, he came right at me but I put him to work

Let me know if they bake their bread on the Tugs, You can tell them I have had quite a exspeariece in the galley cooking cooked on around six on beaver transports & one American battleship to North Africa Never had any trouble with the head chief, Yes I think I will apply for a job, trusting your Son doing OK after leaveing the army, my boys doing fine

Well old friend I will now close, would be pleased to heare from you by return
Yes they where great days at No 7 A good job we made the best of it, And held on to all the hard cash we could, Did I tell you I was in the permanant force in Halliffax a spell, a great life, All steam cooking there like the navy, more news later,
